Since 2019, Karla has been diving into the art of dance on film as the choreographer, director, and videographer and has enjoyed the challenge to develop these various skills needed to share dance through the perspective of the lens. Karla believes that dance has the power to be an integral part of social change by dancing for something bigger than the self and dance on film was the next step in her journey to discover innovative avenues to help and inspire others to find hope and a voice through artistic expression.​​​​​​​​​​
Tethered Edges
This film explores the fragile threads of time between those we have loved and lost. Each person, each thread, is a part of our human tapestry of time.
Obscura
A collaborative exploration between director, dancer, and composer to examine the essence of obscurity. Using poetry to guide movement qualities, each dancer embraced what it meant to unfold the hidden obscurities of life. “With muffled steps in the darkness, take shelter in silent obscurity. We dwell in the evening air with its vital boundary in mind. As light makes dark visible, being here together is enough.”
